What's Available in my Area?
Digital Voice Service - Frequently Asked Questions

What is Digital Voice?
Digital Voice is telephone service, but using your Broadband connection instead of a traditional phone line. It provides the same features you receive through your current line such as local and long distance calling, Caller ID, Call Waiting, Voicemail, etc. But by combining data and voice over a high speed connection, there are also added web-based features.

How does it work?
Simply connect our Arris EMTA (Enhanced Multimedia Terminal Adaptor) between your computer and your 2-way broadband modem, plug in your standard household telephone into it, and you are ready to go! You can then place and receive calls. PLEASE NOTE: As this service relies on advanced technology, if your broadband service is interrupted for any reason, such as a power outage, this service will not work. There are also important differences between dialing 911 from this phone versus a standard telephone line. Please review the Terms of Service for additional detail.

How is it different than my current telephone service?
Although Rainier's Digital Voice relies on different technology, it has the same capabilities as your existing telephone service, with two distinct advantages. First - convenience and flexibility. View and manage incoming and outgoing calls via the web. You can route your calls to other land lines or cell phones, vie calls, access voicemail and enable a email notification - listening to your voicemail right on your PC. All of this with just a click of a mouse button. The Second advantage is price. With Rainier Digital Voice an average customer can save up to 50% off your local phone bill.* (Average consumer phone bill approximately $45.00/mo.)

What do I need to get started?
All you need is a Rainier Broadband Internet connection, a provided cable modem, and a phone. This will provide up to two voice lines, and the ability to serve five extension phones on each line.

How is Digital Voice different from other VOIP
products available?
Although Digital Voice utilizes the same technology, there is one major difference between Digital Voice and other Voice Over IP providers, 9-1-1 service. Rainier's Digital Voice is tied to our traditional telephone switch. So, 911 calls placed from our digital voice lines are immediately routed to our local switch and transferred to the local dispatch center, not routed somewhere out of state. (To secure 911 access, the Digital Voice Terminal must remain on and functional at all times. Please review Terms of Service for additional 911 Emergency Information.)
